Selected Wonder: The Photographs of Glory-June Greif

“Selected Wonder: Photographs by Glory-June Greiff” will be on display at Joeyg’s Restaurant & Nightclub for the month of March. The exhibit will open Sunday, March 4th with a reception & talk by Greiff from 3:30 to 5:30 PM.

Glory-June Greiff’s
photographs in “Selected Wonder” are a celebration of the wonder and beauty to be found in the small details all around us. Greiff, a native of Hudson Lake in northern Indiana, is a public historian and preservation activist now based in Indianapolis. Her love of history and the splendor of the Indiana landscape are evident in her photographs. All of her photographs are shot exclusively with film.

“I have not yet surrendered to digital. Most of these photographs were printed from Kodachrome slides, a beautiful film and process no longer available. I am presently using low-fade Ektachrome; nice, but short of Kodachrome’s richness.” says Greiff.

Greiff has authored many books on the preservation of historic places in Indiana and her photography has always been an important part of her research and documentation. As a preservationist, she has written approximately eighty successful nominations to the National Register of Historic Places around the state. In the early 1990s she served as statewide director of Indiana’s Save Outdoor Sculpture (SOS) survey.

Aside from a B.S. in Radio-Television/English from Butler University (she worked several years on the air in radio) and a master’s degree in Public History from Indiana University, she credits her affinity for photography to other sources of inspiration.

“Life has provided me with many informal instructors. My mother was a talented photographer who sold her photographs to travel magazines. I worked with a filmmaker from whom I learned much through example of line and composition. My work in historic preservation demands photographs that document and highlight the lines and angles of buildings. My eye is my own.” says Greiff.

At the opening reception for her exhibit at Joeyg’s on Sunday, March 4th, Greiff will give a brief talk about her photographs. As an extra bonus, Greiff will also present some of her own poetry on stage.Books by Greiff will be available for purchase.

Photography through the lens of Marilyn Lewellyn

About Me…

I love life and all the simple, hidden objects of beauty that comprise it…

As far back as my memories take me I have always marveled at the beauty of nature and objects. I found myself then, as I still do today, focusing on the shapes and forms within everything around me. I became fascinated by the hidden beauty in the details unnoticed by most but visible to all.

Art has always energized and inspired me. At a very young age I began drawing, which naturally evolved into painting, crafting, sculpting, and graphic design, all of which led me to an exploding passion for photography. It is in photography that I have found the most effective medium to capture those elements that have fascinated me my entire life.

As a photographer, I wish to share my visions of beauty, those hidden elements that might otherwise be overlooked, and the excitement of discovery with you, my audience. It is my hope that you might see something in my work that will evoke a childhood memory, a feeling of contentment, perhaps a subtle reminder of heartache but mostly, the simple promise of love.

Artist Reception Saturday May 14th 1-4PM…

Enjoy!
